About Riham Adel:

Riham is a distinguished leader and entrepreneur with over two decades of expertise in HR Consultancy, Global Recruitment, and Business Leadership. She founded Job Nile Co., an HR solutions firm in Egypt, in 2000, and later established Top Experts Co., a global HR solutions company based in the USA. She was nominated to participate in the IVLP Gold Star program in 2017 where she visited Dallas/Texas, Saint Diego & Washington DC.

She co-founded the Global Women Leaders Circle (GWLC) in 2020, empowering women leaders worldwide. As Chairperson of the HR Consultancy Committee at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and VP of the Entrepreneurship Committee at the Alexandria Businessmen Association, Riham supports youth development and entrepreneurship.

Her international roles include mentoring civil society leaders for the U.S. Dept. Of State/IREX and serving as a Board Member for the UNESCO-AWABA Initiative. Additionally, she has contributed significantly to vocational training and women’s empowerment through various initiatives and as a speaker on youth employment and human capital management.

My favorite state was Washington, D.C., where I visited the White House and spoke at the State Department. I was humbled and happy, impressed by the distinguished people from the State Department who were genuinely interested in my journey. I also visited Capitol Hill and had discussions with a Texas Representative. These significantly boosting my self-motivation, confidence, and certainty that my efforts to learn and go the extra mile are on the right track. I have always worked hard to achieve impactful things, valuing the impact over rewards and profit, and this trip reaffirmed that I am on the right path.

Being selected as a Gold Star among six people out of 30,000 IVLP alumni worldwide made this journey uniquely impactful. Over a couple of weeks, I experienced new exposures, met inspiring women leaders, and connected with accomplished individuals who were impressed by my journey, leading to meaningful friendships. Three life lessons I learned are:

  1. Pursue your dreams relentlessly, like a train stopping only at the stations you choose.
  2. Networking with accomplished individuals enriches your mind, providing role models and like-minded peers.

3. Media doesn’t reflect real life; I was impressed by the friendliness and warmth of Americans, who are welcoming and eager to learn about different cultures

While I didn’t encounter any specific challenges, I did experience a notable shift in perception during the program. Initially, I harbored a misperception that people primarily judge others based on their background rather than their personal story, achievements, and qualities. However, my participation in the program quickly dispelled this notion. I came to realize that sharing one’s personal story has the power to challenge and change traditional stereotypes and perceptions. Through storytelling, individuals can offer insights into their culture and background, fostering curiosity and a desire to learn more. This realization has reinforced my belief in the transformative power of personal narratives and the importance of promoting understanding and appreciation across diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Among the valuable pieces I gained from the program are:

  1. Cultural Exchange and Representation: Participating in the program made me realize the significance of cultural exchange and representation. I learned that every participant acts as an ambassador for their country, culture, and background, fostering understanding and awareness among diverse communities.
  2. Unique Perspectives and Stories: Interacting with participants from various backgrounds provided me with unique perspectives and stories. I discovered the importance of sharing personal experiences, such as my journey as an Arab woman entrepreneur, to spark interest and dialogue, ultimately promoting cross-cultural understanding.
  3. Global Networking and Collaboration: The program emphasized the value of global networking and collaboration. By building friendships and professional connections with participants from different countries, I learned the power of collective action in addressing global challenges and fostering positive change.

Yes, definitely. I have gained many cherished friendships through this program. I have been fortunate to maintain these connections till today, exchanging visits with friends from the US and various other countries. One of these friends has become one of my best friends Adrienne P. Member of the Entrepreneurship organization EO in USA, together we co-founded the Global Women Leaders Circle. We share a passion for supporting and empowering women in leadership. Since then, we have been meeting frequently virtually, and we have also met in person in the US and twice in Egypt when she came to visit me. These friendships have enriched my life both personally and professionally, creating a lasting network of support and collaboration.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to find several commonalities between the cultures of the USA and Egypt. Both Americans and Egyptians are warm hosts who enjoy meeting new people and engaging in cheerful conversations, even with strangers. They share a love for gathering over good food and meals, making social dining a cherished activity. Additionally, both cultures are curious about new cultures, enjoy listening to different music, and are interested in hearing new stories. They also share a willingness to visit and explore new and interesting countries.

The most beneficial part of the program was visiting organizations focused on youth development and women’s empowerment, as well as universities’ career centers and entrepreneurship centers getting introduced to new and best practices. Each activity added value, from interacting with individuals and networking to exploring new places and experiencing American culture. These experiences not only provided useful insights but also brought joy and a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives.

The program profoundly impacted both my personal and professional life upon returning to Egypt. The new exposures, knowledge, and learnings significantly enhanced my self-development, influencing how I handle issues, tackle challenges, and approach problem-solving with increased creativity and efficiency. Applying best practices learned during the program has enabled me to work smarter and more effectively.

Moreover, I co-founded a global women leadership circle, incorporating many of the impressive leaders I met through the program. This network maintains our connections, provides mutual support, and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Together, we strive to support and nurture the next generation of women leaders.

Professionally, the program provided me with invaluable insights and skills that I have been able to apply in my work. The cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills I developed have proven instrumental in navigating diverse teams and engaging with international counterparts. Additionally, the knowledge gained from immersing myself in different cultural contexts has enhanced my ability to approach challenges with a more open and adaptable mindset, ultimately contributing to my professional growth.

I believe that everyone who participates in such programs serves not only as an individual representative but also as an ambassador for their country, culture, ethics, and history. During the sessions and events where I spoke, I was delighted to hear from the audience that they were eager to learn about my journey as an Arab woman entrepreneur from the Middle East—an experience they rarely encounter.

My contribution was in effectively representing our community and culture, sparking interest and awareness, and fostering a greater understanding. This, in turn, opens more channels for exchange and communication, contributing to a more connected and peaceful world. By bridging distances and creating human connections, I believe I left a meaningful fingerprint on the program.

My vision for developing the community and ecosystem in Egypt revolves around initiatives that focus on human capital development and entrepreneurship support. Through my roles as the Chairperson of the Human Resources Consultancy Committee at FEDCOC and President of the Human Resources Management & Development Committee at the Alexandria Chamber, I have initiated programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing human resources management systems within organizations while also nurturing talent and skills development among individuals.

As a Mentor as well as the VP of the Entrepreneurship Committee at a business organization, my focus extends to fostering entrepreneurship awareness and training, particularly among youth and aspiring entrepreneurs. I believe in creating platforms for knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and resource access to empower budding entrepreneurs and drive economic growth.

Furthermore, I aim to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government bodies, educational institutions, and industry leaders, to create a supportive ecosystem that encourages innovation, fosters talent retention, and promotes sustainable development.

Overall, my goal is to contribute to the holistic development of the community by empowering individuals, fostering entrepreneurship, and building a conducive environment for growth and prosperity in Egypt.

Yes, I joined the first round of the US Exchange Alumni Council, serving as the head of the Evaluation and Monitoring committee in 2018. One of the parts I particularly liked was the opportunity for brainstorming and the collaborative effort to set up new effective systems and innovative approaches. This initial phase of the council was characterized by dynamic communication and the exchange of ideas. Moreover, being part of the council has provided me with valuable networking opportunities and connections with like-minded individuals. Overall, my experience with the Egypt US Exchange Alumni Council has been fulfilling. I’m also genuinely impressed by the Council’s performance and the dedication they’ve shown in making a positive impact across all fronts reflecting a commitment to fostering lasting connections and meaningful engagement.
