Girls in Upper Egypt, especially Al-Hawatka Village in Assiut Governorate, are unable to play sports for several reasons.

The most important reasons include customs, traditions and lack of places designated for girls. Hence, the idea of implementing the “Sports for the Soul” Initiative emerged as some girls were trained to play three different sports at the village youth center.

These training courses were the first of their kind to be implemented in the village and are still ongoing until now.

The girls who were trained through the initiative won various medals for their excellence in playing sports.
